Meaning: ⲙⲉⲧⲟⲗ-, perhaps cognate with the Nobiin ⲙⲉⲧⲗⲟⲩⲅ, ‘cover, cloak’ + ⲕⲓⲧⲟ-, ‘to put on oneself’ + -ⲗ (participle) = ‘the one who puts a cloak on him/herself’, i.e. ‘the one who wears a cloak’.
The name seems to be Nubian, although the letter ϫ does not occur in Old Nubian and the element ⲕⲁϫⲟ- is otherwise unidentifiable.
