Meaning: cognate with the Bedauye 'ilogáni', 'sandstorm' (Reinisch 1895, p. 14)
Hasitzka, Łajtar, and Markiewicz suggest that the name may derive from ⲉⲗ-, 'now' (cf. ⲉⲗⲉⲕⲕⲁⲛ, 'from now on').
The name is most probably of Greek origin, which is indicated by the ending -ⲓⲁ, but its etymology is unknown. It may be somehow related to the Cretan city of Kydonia (Gr. Κυδωνία) and its bishop Kydonius from the end of the 4th century.

---d...tat( ) is not necessarily proper name or not the only element of the name, as there is a lacuna of about 8 letters after the personal pronoun ⲁⲛⲟⲕ in the preceding line. It could be, e.g., the person's title, but no offices abbreviated in tat( ) is known from Nubia. Jakobielski 1970, pp. 33–36, suggested to reconstruct [.]ⲇ[ⲟⲝⲟ]ⲧⲁ⸌ⲧ⸍, but in proper Coptic this would require a nominal complement, wheras here the abbreviation for 'son' follows immediately.
