Meaning: perhaps deriving from αἰδέομαι, 'to be ashamed; to stand in awe of; respect misfortune; obtain forgivness', or αἰτέω, 'ask, beg'. If the former, αἰδεοσα would be an uncontracted present active participle, provided the verb could be conjugated in active. If the latter, it may be a variant of Αἰτοῦσα attested in Crete (Masson 1990, p. 589).
